Games industry consultant Nicholas Lovell has published a new tool on his Games Brief website that could be really useful to mobile developers starting work on freemium games.

One caveat: it’s for online games rather than mobile specifically. The GAMESbrief online games spreadsheet offers formulae crunching the key metrics for free-to-play games – monthly active users; daily active users; retention rate; conversion rate; split between whales, dolphins and minnows; and ARPPU.

“The objective is to keep the spreadsheet tracking the fewest number of KPIs that still enable you to get a good grasp of your business,” explains Lovell. “The six metrics I’ve identified will help you identify where your game is performing above market benchmarks and where it is performing below them. The value of the spreadsheet lies in its simplicity.”

Well worth a look.
