Netflix says it will launch in the UK and Ireland in early 2012 with its subscription-based streaming TV and films service.

The company says its service will be available – just as it is in North America – on various devices, including connected TVs, PCs, tablets and smartphones. While it will keep the idea of a single monthly subscription, the company has not announced how much it will cost in the UK and Ireland. Nor has it revealed what content it has licences for in these markets.

British and Irish users are being invited to sign up at the main Netflix website to get an email alert when the service launches in their country. It’s part of Netflix’s global expansion beyond the Americas, where it has more than 25 million members.
