Yesterday, we reported on Big Fish Games launching a subscription-based games service for iOS, with approval from Apple. Today, the Play Instantly app has been removed from the App Store. Yes, by Apple.
“We were notified that the app was removed,” founder Paul Thelen tells Bloomberg. “We’re trying to follow up with Apple to try to figure out what happened… It was officially approved.” In fact, Apple had even approved the company’s press release.
Apple has made no public comment on why Play Instantly has now been removed from the App Store. It’s not a great situation for either Big Fish or Apple – in the latter case, for the silence as much as the approval and swift dis-approval of the games service.
It’s Thanksgiving in the US today, so we’re unsure if there will be more developments once the West Coast wakes up. We will update this story if there are.
