It still seems strange to write about Disney releasing a Spider-Man app – the company bought Marvel in late 2009. Still, The Amazing Spider-Man: An Origin Story is out for iPhone and iPad, as Disney’s latest iOS book-app.

The £4.99 app focuses on the famous back-story of Peter Parker, as a radioactive spider-bite turns him into a superhero with the ability to climb up walls, leap between buildings and appear in variable-quality video games.

Fans will know this story backwards, of course, but they may be attracted to this app by the fact that co-creator Stan Lee provides the voice narration. Meanwhile, there are Spidey-themed mini-games and a choice of reading modes to suit all ages.

The app joins the official Marvel Comics app on the App Store, which sells digital editions of some vintage Amazing Spider-Man comics from the early 1960s.
