Rovio Mobile has announced its latest licensing deal for Angry Birds, working with playground equipment firm Lappset Group in the UK to launch – wait for it – ‘play and activity equipment and ready-made activity parks’ based on its mobile game franchise.
The deal will cover around 20 products, including animal spring riders, swings, sandpits and climbing towers with slides. All will be festooned with the popular birds and pigs from the games, and there’s even an Angry Birds arcade game designed to be played outdoors.
“The activity parks tie in perfectly with the Angry Birds world and our way of thinking,” says Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka in a statement.
“We will be developing a service which brings together the digital world and the physical world in a way that’s never been seen before. The popularity of Angry Birds isn’t restricted to any age, sex or social group, and the activity parks will be designed to be interesting places for absolutelyeveryone, all around the world.”
The first Angry Birds activity parks are due to launch in 2012 in Finland, but the UK is also likely to get the equipment soon. Meanwhile, Lappset has its sights set on joining Rovio’s expansion into Asia.
“Working with Angry Birds will extend Lappset’s opportunities in the growing Asian market and strengthen its product range to improve the health and fitness of people of all ages, while also highlighting Lappset’s ability to be the leading and most innovative company in its field,” says managing director Juha Laakkonen.
