Tony Barnes is Senior Digital Marketing Manager for EMI’s Virgin Records. In this role he oversees the label’s digital strategy in the UK, delivering innovative, impactful and award winning campaigns for artists including Emeli Sandé, Professor Green, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Katy Perry and 30 Seconds To Mars across all digital platforms, channels and devices. Prior to joining EMI in 2009 Tony held a variety of digital marketing roles at music companies including leading UK Independent label Cherry Red Records.

 

Paul Brindley – Co-founder – Music Ally

Paul Brindley is the co-founder of Music Ally. Paul has a background as amusician, having played bass guitar with The Sundays, an indie band who sold over 2 million albums worldwide. He then went on to work as a researcher in Tony Blair’s private office atthe House of Commons, before picking up again with music by writing New Musical Entrepreneurs, a report into the impact of new technologies on the UK music industry. This influential textbook on the early days of the digital music business was published by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) think-tank in March 2000. He was also called in to advise the UK Government on the policy implications of technology and new media. After co-founding Music Ally in 2002, the company has gone on to become a leading digital music research and strategycompany with clients including the likes of Universal, EMI, Tesco, Orange and BBC. Paul is a respected authority and regular commentator and publicspeaker at various music and media events worldwide.

Martyn Davies – Six Two Productions

Martyn Davies is a creative technologist specialising in building cool things with open data, music data and APIs through his company Six Two Productions. His clients include Universal Music Group, Warner Music, PIAS and others. Previously he was Innovation Manager at Universal Music Group and a producer and product manager for BBC Radio 1, BBC Music and BBC Introducing. Martyn is also the central coordinator for Music Hack Day and organiser of the London Music Hack Day and MIDEM Hack Day in Cannes.

David Emery is the Head of Marketing for Beggars Group records, and has worked on a wide range of artists including Adele, Radiohead, Bon Iver, The National, The Strokes, Belle and Sebastian, Sonic Youth and many more. Bridging the divide between traditional marketing and digital he is responsible for developing and implementing innovative campaigns across the entire Beggars roster.

 

 

Richard Firminger – Managing Director of Europe – Flurry

As Managing Director of Europe, Richard leads the company’s UK office as well as advertiser sales and publisher relationships across Europe. Prior to Flurry, Richard led the digital media sales team for Amazon in Europe. Prior to Amazon, Richard was Commercial Director for Northern Europe for Yahoo!, UK MD for Enpocket (sold to Nokia to become Nokia Media Business in 2006), UK Deputy MD & BD Director for AdLink (a direct response media sales organization, sold to HiMedia in 2009) and the first UK Commercial Director for DoubleClick, subsequently sold to AdLink in 2001. Prior to DoubleClick Richard spent nearly 10 years in B2B publishing in tech press on titles such as Computing and Personal Computer World and during this time he launched Information Week and Computer Reseller News in the UK for CMP Media.

Sten Garmark – Director of Platform – Spotify

Sten Garmark is the Director of Platform for Spotify globally, with overall responsibility for everything to do with the Spotify Platform, from product development, engineering, apps, web and mobile API, developer marketing and support.

In this role, Sten has developed a team to execute Spotify’s strategic vision for the platform. In recent months, Sten and his team have launched Spotify Apps, which marked a major new strategic direction for the business, launched the iOS Mobile API, which powers apps such as SpotOn Radio and Soundrop, and delivered innovative hardware integrations with the likes of Boxee and Western Digital.

Prior to his role at Spotify, Sten worked at Oracle, where he was Product Manager and Engineering Manager for the Java Platform, where a key achievement was leading a team which created the fastest Java implementation in the world, beating Sun and IBM in the process. Sten’s love of music and tech started young, playing with the trackers on Commodore 64, and his most prized possession is a 1970s Fender Rhodes keyboard. His favourite artist is D’Angelo, who recently toured Stockholm after 11 years out of the spotlight.

 

Matthew Guest – Senior Manager – Deloitte

Matthew Guest is a Senior Manager in Deloitte’s Strategy Consulting practice and has been advising companies in the media, telecoms and technology industries on their digital business models for nearly a decade; a journey that’s taken him to markets as diverse as Japan, Kenya, India and the US. Last summer, Matthew authored the widely-covered report “Killer Apps?”, which exposed the relative successes of global brands in monetising app stores.


 

Stephen O’Reilly – Director of International Sales

Nikke Osterback – Digital Campaign Manager – Warner Music Group

In the past I’ve been involved in event production for festivals, tours, concerts and music conferences. From the beginning of 2008 I worked for Island Records UK as a consultant on digital campaigns for the likes of Amy Winehouse, Jack Johnson, Nelly, Sugababes, Keane, Portishead, Ladyhawke, Cut Copy, Florence and the Machine and Paul Weller.

Currently I’m being employed by Atlantic Records, the newly crowned label of the year (Music Week Awards) as a Digital Campaign Manager. The Atlantic digital team also won 3 prestigious BT Digital Music Awards for the best digital marketing campaigns for The Streets and Ed Sheeran. Bruno Mars also took home the best international artist award. My projects among others include Ed Sheeran, Delilah, Santigold, Birdy, James Blunt, Bruno Mars, Paolo Nutini, Paramore, Plan B, Rumer, and Lykke Li.

Kim is an award-winning digital music and mobile marketer who gained a wealth of experience at both EMI and Universal Music, before founding digital marketing business Noise Inc.

Neil Tinegate is VP Digital Projects at EMI Music where he is responsible for developing and implementing digital initiatives as part of EMI’s commitment to delivering successful outcomes for its roster of artists. Tinegate recently devised and launched OpenEMI to foster closer and more innovative contacts between EMI and the technology development sector, providing access to EMI’s content including tracks, videos and other assets to developers via API alongside a ground breaking revenue share deal. OpenEMI represents the most extensive collection of licensed music and other content to ever be available in this way, giving developers a one-stop destination to design creative digital products for EMI’s artists.
