This is rather marvellous. British artist and designer Chris O’Shea has launched an app called Makego, which promises to turn “your iPhone / iPod touch into a toy vehicle”.
Which means a top-down view of a racing car, ice-cream truck or river boat, which your child can then ‘drive’ around the living room / etc, with animations and sound to interact with the virtual driver.
The idea is that kids can make their own physical vehicles to carry the iOS device – e.g. from Lego – with O’Shea encouraging people to upload their photos of the things they build to inspire others.
We love this for the same reason we love Toca Boca’s Toca Tea Party – it extends the play out from the iOS device and into the real world.
