One Sony? Well, it’s better than ‘five or six Sony divisions, fighting like cats in a bag’, which is how unkind people might characterise the consumer technology giant’s recent years.

New president and CEO Kazuo Hirai has announced the company’s strategic plans, with the intent of establishing “rapid and optimized decision making processes as ‘One Sony’”.

The company is focusing around three ‘core pillars’: imaging, games and mobile, with executives tasked with more closely tying together Sony’s hardware and content businesses.

Smartphones and tablets will sit with PCs in the ‘mobile’ pillar, following Sony’s recent buyout of Ericsson’s share of their Sony Ericsson joint venture.
