Rovio has taken the unusual step of warning its fans off hooky versions of the Angry Birds games, publishing a link to its Angry Birds Space website on its blog under the headline “Watch out for fake versions of Angry Birds Space”. Why now? Security firm Sophos has identified a nasty strain of malware masquerading as the latest Angry Birds game on Android. “The Trojan horse, which Sophos detects as Andr/KongFu-L, appears to be a fully-functional version of the popular smartphone game, but uses the GingerBreak exploit to gain root access to the device, and install malicious code,” it explains. “The Trojan communicates with a remote website in an attempt to download and install further malware onto the compromised Android smartphone… Effectively, your Android phone is now part of a botnet, under the control of malicious hackers.”
