The latest startup looking to make AR something that consumers can create rather than just developers is Metaio. It’s launched an AR toolkit called metaio Creator, which uses drag’n'drop controls to help anyone create their own AR content. “Augmented reality production used to be restricted to developers and programmers. The metaio Creator will change that by enabling even beginners to effortlessly create and launch AR experiences,” says CEO Thomas Alt. This all ties into the company’s Junaio AR browser app, which has so far powered more than 200 pieces of content, with 900 more in development. Metaio isn’t the first company to target users – in December 2011, Layar unveiled Stiktu, its own app for user-generated AR content.
