With Apple’s WWDC conference looming, the jungle drums are starting to beat regarding what might be announced for the company’s iOS 6 software. This weekend saw 9 to 5 Mac claim that Apple will switch out Google Maps in favour of its own in-house mapping technology, complete with whizzy 3D scenes – all the result of integrating technology from acquisitions Placebase, C3 Technologies and Poly9. It would have important ramifications for iOS developers, many of whom tap into Google Maps currently. Apple-watcher John Gruber of Daring Fireball floats the idea of a Siri API for app developers to tap into, while blogger-turned VC MG Siegler claims that iOS 6 rejoices in the internal codename of Sundance, and predicts new iCloud features and possibly a revamped iTunes / App Store.
