Excuse our sarcasm: it’s slightly puzzling to see Facebook launch its own standalone photo-sharing app little over a month after announcing plans to acquire Instagram for $1bn, though. Yet Facebook Camera is that app, available for iPhone only at the moment. It lets people browse just photos posted by their Facebook friends, while shooting their own pics, applying Instagram-style filters and uploading them to Facebook. A key feature is batch-uploading to add lots of pics at once. So does this have a long-term future? It seems more like a sandbox to test features that will ultimately be added to Facebook’s main app – filters and batch-uploading being the obvious two.
