One of the emerging themes at TV industry conferences in recent times has been the idea of who controls the second screen. Is it broadcasters, producers, startups (e.g. Zeebox) or brands? Or, indeed, someone else? We spotted a Downton Abbey app go live on the App Store last night, and it’s a second-screen app that aims to be “your friend before, during & after the show”. The point being that this isn’t official at all: the developer makes it clear in their App Store listing that it’s not endorsed by or associated with any of the broadcasters or producers involved.
