The UK’s Daily Mirror newspaper has launched a new iPhone app, promising “all the very latest news, showbiz gossip and sport 24/7 in the palm of your hand”. The app also pulls in videos and liveblogs from the Mirror’s website, and has a My Mirror feature for users to personalise the categories on their homepage. Sharing features are included too. What’s interesting is the business model: or rather the fact that the Mirror isn’t charging for its app, at least for now. That’s a contrast to rivals like The Guardian, which charges £3.99 every six months or £4.99 a year for its own iPhone app.
