At the Midem music industry conference earlier this year, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed said his company was keen to strike promotional partnerships with artists and labels around its Angry Birds games.
It took a while, but the first fruits launched yesterday: a Green Day-themed episode in the Angry Birds Friends Facebook game.
The band are appearing as the villainous pig characters in the 10 playable levels, with more to come over the next few months. Their new single Oh Love features too, as well as exclusive track Troublemaker.
Angry Birds Friends currently has 13.1m monthly active users on Facebook, although Rovio has yet to confirm whether Green Day’s episode will also be appearing in the mobile and tablet versions of Angry Birds Friends.
