iOS accessory maker Discovery Bay Games has raised $15 million in Series B funding to develop and launch a new range of digital and physical “gaming experiences” for iPad and iPhone.

The Seattle firm originally started as a board game company but moved into the iOS accessory market last year with the launch of the Duo joystick for iPad, in collaboration with Atari.

Discovery Bay Games CEO Mike Sievert tells Tech Crunch the funding is meant to ensure that his company can be an early leader in a big new market. The mobile accessory market is expected to generate $20 billion in revenue this year, according to researcher ABI, rising to $38 billion by 2017.

Sievert adds, “Our belief is that the consumer device market for games will unfold much the same way the accessories market for audio devices unfolded when the iPod was being popularized, but potentially on a much larger scale”

Logitech and Trilogy Equity Partners led the funding round.
