Swedish kid-apps publisher Toca Boca has released its latest iOS app, Toca Band, which marks the company’s move into music – albeit with its signature character design and ease-of-use.
The app involves manipulating samples and loops by dragging characters and dropping them onto virtual plinths on the screen, including guitar, drums and bass, but also frogs, a clock, a Ragga-chatting rapper and a Theremin-mouthed cat.
For now, Toca Boca is sticking with its no-IAP policy, so there is only one song to play within the app.
There is clearly scope to sell more in-app, as another publisher Gabuduck is trying with its KBC Kids app, but it remains to be seen if Toca Boca goes down that road.
Toca Boca is one of the most popular independent publishers of children’s apps, having passed 10m total downloads on the App Store in May 2012.
