Children’s app developer Toca Boca is now past 16m downloads on the App Store, up from 15m in mid-September.

The figure was revealed in the announcement of the company’s latest app, Toca Tailor, which went live on the App Store this morning. Following in the footsteps of previous apps Toca Kitchen and Toca Hair Salon, this time round children are making virtual clothing for four characters.

Toca Boca is also using more features of iOS devices in the new app: children can take photographs of real objects to use as textures in their creations, with a nifty augmented reality feature then enabling them to snap the digital characters in the real world too.

The launch comes as Toca Boca is preparing to spread its wings beyond iOS to Android, having posted a job ad earlier this month for an Android developer to work in its Stockholm office.
