Augmented realist specialist Blippar has given the current edition of ShortList magazine what editor Martin Robinson says is “the world’s first playable gaming cover”.

The new edition of the free lifestyle magazine, released today in the UK, focuses on gaming, including a feature on the 20 greatest retro games. To celebrate, the magazine’s cover can be blipped to turn it into a fully playable version of 80s classic Chuckie Egg.

Throughout the magazine there is additional interactive content including a 2013 new games preview, which readers can scan for trailers for games including GTA V and Tomb Raider, as well as an Assassins Creed 3 feature, in which readers can photograph themselves in the assassin’s hood.

ShortList editor Martin Robinson said, “We’d been planning a gaming special for ShortList which celebrated retro games as well as new releases, and thought it would make for an exciting magazine first if people could somehow ‘play’ our cover.”

To access the interactive content, readers must first download the Blippar app from the App Store or Google Play, then scan the page in question.
