Channel 4 has produced a companion app for Jamie Oliver’s new 15-Minute Meals TV show (and accompanying cook book) that uses augmented reality to enhance your cooking.

The Jamie’s 15-Minute Meals app, which integrates with Aurasma’s augmented reality software, contains no written recipes but is instead intended to help users “prepare everything you need for the perfect meal”.

Dishes from the TV series are delivered to the app as digital Meal Cards, containing ingredients and equipment lists, nutritional information and the ability to set a reminder for the TV series. Smartphone and tablet owners can then use the app to unlock additional content by pointing their device at any full-page image in the 15-Minute Meals book.

Marc Goodchild, digital product exec at Fresh One Productions, said the app “has allowed us to tie in together the book the TV series and offer the users something extra”.

Jamie Oliver has typically been more digitally active than most chefs, last week announcing an iPad edition for his Jamie Magazine.
