eBay’s mobile sales increased by more than 200% year-on-year in the US in the third quarter of 2012 , with more than 1.8m users making their first eBay purchase through mobile in the first nine months of the year.
The figures, reported in TechCrunch, come days after eBay unveiled a number of mobile initiatives designed to boost seasonal shopping through smartphones. They include mobile-exclusive deals and an iPhone-exclusive gift guide.
“Mobile is a game changer for holiday shopping,” said eBay Mobile VP Steve Yankovich. “Consumers expect to shop on their own terms, and tablets and smartphones make every moment instantly shoppable.”
eBay revealed in October that it had signed up 800,000 new users on mobile devices in the third quarter of 2012, as it passed 100m total downloads of its apps.
