With all signs pointing to a big festive season for mobile shopping, Toys R Us has redesigned its mobile apps and mobile-optimised sites ahead of the Christmas rush.

New features across both mobile sites and apps include easier navigation and local deals, while there is also a new barcode / QR scanner for the company’s apps, allowing users to access extra product information when shopping in store.

Improvements span mobile offerings from the company’s Toys R Us and Babies R Us brands, with the retailer also launching a tablet-friendly site for the two outlets.

In addition, Toys R Us has rolled out its “Buy Online, Pick Up In Store” and “Ship to Store” offerings to smartphone and tablet stores, options that were previously limited to desktop sites.

Prosper Mobile Insights recently claimed that 55.3% of mobile users plan to use their devices for purchases, research, store locating and more this year.
