Musicians and labels continue to be excited about the potential for mobile apps, but there are alternative ways of getting onto smartphones and tablets. Coldplay have launched an enhanced e-book through Apple’s iBooks store, for example.

Based on their new live DVD, the iBook costs £4.99 and lists ‘Coldplay’ as its publisher, promises to tell “the inside story of the band’s world tour, via interviews with all four members and many of their closest touring personnel and collaborators”.

It also uses the latest features of the iBooks platform: an interactive tour map, behind-the-scenes videos, audio interviews and other interactive content.

Coldplay are the latest band to experiment with an iBook: others include The Streets, George Harrison (well, his widow Olivia) and the Rolling Stones.
