Samsung is closing its Samsung Movies rental and download store in the UK next month.

Engadget reports that the UK service will close on December 15, citing an email to Samsung Movie users.

Samsung Movies launched across Europe in March 2009 offering films and TV shows to rent and buy, powered by Acetrax. However, prices were reasonably steep – The Dictator costs £11.99 to buy and £3.49 to rent, for example – and the service failed to take off.

It is not yet known what will happen to Samsung Movies in other European countries.
