Here’s an interesting idea: an iOS app that “creates a personalized digital magazine for the sports news that you care about most”. It’s called SportsPage, and went live on the App Store yesterday in free and paid versions.

“Flip through page after page of your teams news feed consisting of news articles from numerous sources, images, and recent Twitter posts,” explains its App Store listing.

“Fill SportsPage with the sports, leagues, and teams that you want to read about, from your local college or professional team and headline sports news. SportsPage creates a single place to enjoy, browse, comment on and share all the sports news, photos and updates that matter to you.”

Sounds familiar? Here’s Flipboard’s App Store listing:

“Flip through your Facebook newsfeed and Google+ Circles, tweets from your Twitter timeline, photos from Instagram friends, videos from YouTube, and much more… Fill Flipboard with the things you like to read… Flipboard creates a single place to enjoy, browse, comment on and share all the news, photos and updates that matter to you.”

Well, quite. And if you look at SportsPage’s iPhone screenshots, and even its App Store icon, its inspiration is clear (comparison provided on the right).

What Flipboard makes of the sporty homage remains to be seen.
