Almost half of the UK’s online population has played games in the last year according to a new survey from the Interactive Software Federation of Europe, although app games still lag behind packaged and online titles.

The Videogames in Europe Report found that 40% of the UK’s online population aged 16 to 64 had played games in the last year, with women making up 46% of this total. 29% of respondents said they had played an online game over the last 12 months, compared to 28% for packaged games and 18% for apps.

App games proved most popular among the 16 to 34-year-old age group: 29% of men and 23% of women of this age said they had played an app game in the last year, according to the survey.
