Nokia has refreshed its Reader app for Series 40 devices, offering simple news aggregation for emerging markets.
The Nokia Reader For Series 40 beta uses Nokia Notifications to bring news updates to handsets without overly draining the battery. These Notifications only use data connection when “absolutely required”, with much of the hard work done on back-end servers.
Users select news sources from an online directory that is based on their location. They can then read stories in the Nokia Xpress Browser.
The refresh could prove significant for mobile users in the emerging markets where the Series 40 devices are popular. Nokia calls Series 40 its “platform for mass market devices” and claims there are more than 1bn of them in use around the world.
The Nokia Reader for Series 40 beta was first released in March.
