Samsung has named the winners in its 2012 Smart App Challenge for the best Galaxy Tab, Note and S-Pen apps, as the tech giant looks to get developers on side.
The Galaxy Tab / Note app category was divided into games and non-games, with Feelingtouch Inc’s Gun & Blood winning the Grand Prize in the former category and Mikhail Kuznetsov’s Photo Deformer taking Grand Prize in the latter. SpinVector’s FromCheese triumphed in the S-Pen category. For developers, the competition was billed as a chance to benefit from Samsung’s marketing muscle and win some money, while for Samsung the prize reflects its attempts to promote its own app ecosystem and get developers on side.
Indie game developer HandyGames, whose free game Guns’n'Glory WW2 was among the winners in the games category, revealed that their game has now been downloaded more than 5m times since its release in September 2011.
