Some £3.5bn of festive shopping in the UK will be “influenced” by smartphones this year, according to Deloitte.
This total includes £330m of actual sales by smartphones and £500m via tablets, triple the amount of sales through mobile devices last year but still less than a third of the $3.5bn figure, TechCrunch reports. The other £2.67bn, according to Deloitte, comes from customers using their devices to research prices, store Christmas shopping lists and engage with friends and family using social media.
Indeed, Deloitte said that smartphones will influence 10% of total festive shopping in the UK, compared to 5.1% in the US.
The news follows reports of a bumper Thanksgiving and Black Friday for mobile shopping in the US last week.
