HBO is opening a dedicated software development office in Seattle to develop apps and other digital products.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the new office will be headed by former Microsoft executives Otto Berkes – now senior vice president of digital products at HBO – and Drew Angeloff, who will be vice president in charge of the Seattle office and will report to Berkes. The office will open in the coming months and will be devoted to new services such as HBO Go.
Berkes told the WSJ that the Seattle office can also “continue the ongoing development of Xbox products”. HBO’s Game of Thrones was, for example, one of the earliest shows to develop features for Xbox’s new Smart Glass app.
