Amazon has opened its Maps API to all developers as part of an updated Mobile App SDK.

Amazon Maps API has two core features: Interactive Maps, allowing developers to embed a map view in their app for customers to pan and zoom around the world; and Custom Overlays, allowing developers to display the locations of businesses, landmarks and other points of interest with their own customized markers and pins.

Amazon said that it had received “a great deal of interest” in its Maps since launching the API as a public beta in September and partnering with developers including Hipmunk, Evernote, Trulia and Zillow to integrate mapping into Kindle Fire apps.
