Apple sold 2m iPhone 5s in China in just three days the company has announced, shrugging off reports that the handset was off to a slow start there.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said that customer response to iPhone 5 in China had been “incredible” following the launch on December 14, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales in China. “China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products,” he added. By point of comparison, Apple sold 5m iPhone 5s in nine countries during its first week on sale in September.

Last Friday Apple stock fell sharply after analysts claimed that the iPhone 5 was off to a slow start in China.
