The biggest guns of the music-production world are launching apps based on their key software, with Steinberg Media Technologies the latest.

Its Cubasis app for iPad came out yesterday: a £34.99 application billed as a “streamlined, multitouch sequencer… Specially designed for quick and easy operation, Cubasis makes recording, editing and mixing a breeze.”

Projects started in the app can also be opened in the Cubase desktop software, with more than 70 virtual instrument sounds and 300 MIDI and audio loops included in the iPad version.

We’re not suggesting this will replace desktop production software: but it’s ideal for musicians messing about with song ideas on the move, or away from their computers.
