Microsoft logoMicrosoft sold just 1m Surface tablets in the fourth quarter of 2012 according to UBS, half as many as the bank had initially predicted.

In a research report UBS AG analyst Brent Hill blamed “gloomy sentiment” for halving his estimate of the Surface’s sales numbers. However, there was one positive note for Microsoft: Hill said that the Surface Pro, the new business-focussed Surface tablet expected to go on sale this month, is “the more promising” model.

The Surface went on sale at the end of October.
