Instagram-logoRumours have been swirling of a drop-off in users for photo-sharing service Instagram in recent weeks, following a public debate about its terms of service.

Now the Facebook subsidiary has moved to squash those rumours by releasing some stats, claiming it now has 90m monthly active users posting 40m photos a day.

It’s one of the few times Instagram has talked about its MAU figure as opposed to overall downloads, and the strong implication is that while geeks argued about the terms of service, many millions more mainstream consumers were happily snapping away using the app.

“Instagram continues to see very strong growth around the world,” CEO Kevin Systrom tells All Things Digital. “With many of the product and internationalization improvements we’ve made, we’ve been excited to see these efforts resonate with users globally.”
