Authentic In All Caps, currently raising funds onAustralian crowdfunding platform Pozible, has to be one of the most interesting uses of apps for storytelling we’ve seen in a while, employing an iPad app and fictional websites to create a “web audio adventure” that combines radio drama with web navigation.
The project, which has raised around AUS$1,000 of its AUS$ 15,000 goal, is “a comedy drama set in a world split in two”. Users download the iPad app and are then guided by a narrator to a number of fictional websites where they will hear and see the drama unfold. an iPad app and fictional websites to create a “web audio adventure” that combines radio drama with web navigation.
On its Pozible page, the team says that it has created a “new way to experience the web”. “The idea of the audio-driven navigation system came in response to a problem I saw happening in highly dispersed projects,” said Christy Dena, the writer, designer, and director of Authentic In All Caps (or AUTHENTIC IN ALL CAPS as they would have it).
“There is a design issue/challenge in successfully encouraging your players or audience to travel across numerous websites – to go to lots of different ‘places’ to experience a work of fiction. Many creators have gone the route of ‘convergence’, where they combine everything in the same place…thus removing any ‘divergence’. I’m interested in ‘unmixed media’ aesthetics.”
