iPhone app Ban.jo is one of the many social location startups looking to get people checking in to public places, having launched in June 2011. Ban.jo worked with Blondie on their recent tour, promoting an appearance at a pop-up Marc Jacobs store, connecting “thousands of fans” around an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and inviting fans who checked in to gigs using Ban.jo to come backstage and meet the band. Ban.jo now wants to do the same thing with other artists, launching a ‘beta entertainment partnership program’ which CEO Damien Patton says will “help to connect bands with fans during tours, album releases and promotional events. They will use Banjo’s location based mobile technology to discover and connect with fans in real time across multiple social networks, anywhere in the world” A very similar idea is the cornerstone of Finnish startup Flowd’s app and platform, while Foursquare is making its own moves to get artists using its service to connect with fans out in the real world.

The post App startup Banjo reveals Blondie campaign and new beta program appeared first on The Appside.
