Shazam has announced that the first UK TV ads using its tagging technology will run this Saturday, during the final of talent show Britain’s Got Talent. The ads will be for Pepsi Max and Cadbury, and when tagged, will enter viewers into sweepstakes to win prizes including music festival tickets and London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony tickets. Pepsi’s ad, when tagged, will also provide a link to its Calvin Harris and Ne-Yo soundtrack. The ads are the result of Shazam’s recent deal with broadcaster ITV, which is selling the technology to advertisers. This follows its widespread use in the US in 2011 and 2012.

The post First UK Shazam-enabled TV ads to run this weekend appeared first on The Appside.

On Friday, ITV and FremantleMedia announced that viewers of their Britain’s Got Talent TV show would be able to vote from within its official app, starting on Saturday night. More than 500k people had downloaded the app, and they’d be able to buy a bundle of three votes for £1.49 in-app, to cast their votes for contestants. App developer Tellybug and mobile firm MIG were involved. All good, right? Well, things didn’t quite go to plan. Today, ITV has been apologising after “congestion” led to people being unable to vote, despite having already paid to do so. The system has now been abandoned. “We offer our sincere apologies to those who experienced these issues…Viewers will still be able to use the landline and mobile short numbers promoted in the show,” says the broadcaster.
