Revenue will be split between Narr8 and the creator, in an as-yet-undecided ratio.

“The Narr8 Editor is the next big step in our business strategy, and it will greatly diversify the kinds of stories that are available (to readers),” Narr8′s Darya Trushkina told VentureBeat.

The app, which is available for iOS and Android is free, although users have to buy credits to access individual issues. Using a 5,000 credit pack, for example, this works out at around 60p per issue.

The app’s launch follows publishers DC Thomson’s decision in December to move The Dandy to digital only.

Budding comic book artists now have two places to sell their work online, after digital comic book reader Emanata launched a new self-publishing store within its iPad app. The move comes just days after leading digital comics platform Comixology launched its own submissions platform for self-published work. However, the two have a rather different approach, with Comixology only selling titles that win approval from its submissions team. Emanata’s system, by contrast, is billed as “artist centric” with no evaluation process before self-published comics go on sale. Creators can also choose to give their work away for free, which is not allowed on the Comixology platform.

The post Digital comic book reader Emanata launched ‘artict-centric’ self-publishing store appeared first on The Appside.

Using Emanata, creators set the price of their work according to Apple’s pricing tier system ($0.99, $1.99, $2.99, etc.). Apple takes a 30% cut of all sales, with Emanata and the artist sharing the remaining 70%.

ComiXology has cemented its position as the most popular comic book-apps firm, inking an exclusive deal to distribute Marvel’s digital comics to the English-speaking world. It’s a multi-year deal covering ComiXology’s own Comics app, and the separate official Marvel app which it runs for the publisher. ComiXology has also given some figures for its apps: more than 65m digital issues downloaded so far on iOS, Android and desktop, up from 50m in January this year. TechCrunch reports that ComiXology’s downloads have grown 450% year-on-year in Q1 2012, and that the recent Avengers vs. X-Men series saw nearly 10% of print edition buyer redeeming codes to get the digital versions for free.
